2020 Texas BEST and UIL State Robotics Championships
 November 30 through December 12

While BTR, UIL, and UTD still plan to have the championships and declare the top teams, there will not be a large physical event for this year's championships due to COVID-19 concerns.  Read more below and stay tuned!  Updates will be posted as we know more.

The fifth annual UIL State Championship - BEST Robotics Division will be held November 30th through December 12th.  The championship is open to high school teams competing in BEST Robotics who are members of Texas' University Interscholastic League (UIL).   Teams register to participate as a UIL team to be eligible for advancement to the UIL State Championship from their hub competition.  The teams not competing for UIL are eligible for the Texas BEST Robotics Championship through the normal BEST advancement process.  The Texas BEST Robotics Championship will be hosted jointly with the UIL State Championship.   All teams must complete the competition before we can determine the final awardees.  Award ceremony will follow a few days after the final team completes competition.

ALL teams shall submit their notebooks for judging online.  For all 2020 BEST competitions, either hub or championship, BEST Award teams will give their presentations via a scheduled online meeting with judges and do a video exhibit discussion.  The spirit and sportsmanship category of the BEST Award is waived for this year -- we simply don't have a good way to judge this category.  All online activities will be completed before the robot game play.

Check the detailed schedule (see button above) or check out the activities on the BEST National Registry.  Don't forget, you may also contact your hub for more information.

Texas BEST & UIL State Robotics Championship needs YOU to volunteer!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: We would LOVE your expertise (and we train every volunteer, too)-- you can see the shifts and register at https://texasbest.ivolunteer.com/champ2020 .
Here is a link explaining this year's game and a Google Drive with other presentations that will continue to be added to ease the volunteering experience. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rrU-8Ad8aqIxbRWGGNl_s23BVz8CXIY7

1) Marketing/Exhibit Judging- Marketing Presentation and Exhibit Reviews with student teams on a virtual platform- dates range between December 1 finishing by December 3 OR between December 8 finishing by December 10 and shifts are normally approx. 4 hours (a block in the morning, a block in the afternoon)

2) SELF SCHEDULED: Notebook Judging--Review of engineering notebooks on a flexible schedule- approx. 4-5 notebooks per judge- between November 29 finishing by December 3 for those teams notified by 11/14 of their qualifying OR between December 6 finishing by December 10 for those team notified by 11/21 of their qualifying.

3) Gameplay Judging- We need experienced gameplay judges for in-classroom AND virtual competitions in a variety of cities across the state on Saturday, 12/5 (23 teams that are all classroom based gameplay) and Saturday, 12/12 (26 teams of which 19 are online game play and the remainder would be classroom gameplay) between the hours of 8 am finishing by 7 pm or before. It's very important that if your hub has experience with virtual, we'd ask that you help with virtual teams on 12/12 or if your hub's experience was for classroom play that you help primarily on 12/5. These teams will be livestreamed and you can judge virtually by watching their feed (they'll be using two cameras and have trusted agents on site).
