About Us

BEST of Texas Robotics (BTR) is a front runner in bringing S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to the hearts and minds of middle and high school students.  We work with organizations to support S.T.E.M. education and help create learning moments by making basic robotics and technology exciting and fun.

BEST of Texas Robotics leads the way in developing exciting and engaging activities, competitions, and learning opportunities for students across Texas.  Partnered with BEST Robotics, Inc. (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology), BEST of Texas Robotics is growing local BEST competition sites (hubs) and BEST teams by making the BEST Robotics program available and affordable to all Texas students.

BEST of Texas Robotics also hosts the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Robotics State Championship - BEST Robotics Division in the late fall each year.  The local BEST competition sites (hubs) in Texas are the team qualifying events for the UIL championship.

BEST of Texas Robotics is a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Mission

BEST of Texas Robotics (BTR) will strive to positively impact education systems across Texas and the United States, encourage students into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, and return real value to our volunteers and sponsors.

Our Goals

Students will become competent and confident in:

• Abstract Thinking • Self-Directed Learning • Teamwork • Project Management
• Decision-Making • Problem-Solving • Leadership

As a result of participating in BEST, students will:

• Understand the practical use of math concepts and applied physics
• Solve real-world science and engineering problems
• Gain an increased interest in engineering, math, and science
• Understand what engineers do
• Experience “design-to-market” product development
• Receive recognition and acclaim typically reserved for their peers in sports

About

Picture
BEST Robotics, Inc. (BRI) is a nationwide non-profit, volunteer organization headquartered in Texas.  The idea for a BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) competition originated in 1993 when two Texas Instruments (TI) engineers, Ted Mahler and Steve Marum, were serving as guides for Engineering Day at their company site in Sherman. Together with a group of high school students, they watched a video of freshmen building a robot in Woody Flowers' class at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The high school students were so interested that Ted and Steve said, Why don't we do this? With enthusiastic approval from TI management, North Texas BEST was born.  The first competition was held in 1993 with 14 schools and 221 students (including one team from San Antonio).  Today, BEST has more than 850 middle- and high-school teams with more than 18,000 participating students.
